Our Story From 1866 to Present...
Messrs. Myers & Tice established a company to manufacture and sell hand-rolled cigars, cigarettes, and pipe tobacco, sourcing from Wisconsin farmers and transported via river & rail transportation.
W.G. Cox purchased Tice’s interest, and the company became Myers-Cox Co. The Myers family continued ownership.
Myers-Cox began distributing cigars and chewing tobacco nationally, partnering with companies like American Tobacco.
W.B. Poinsett and Thomas Stamper acquired the company, leading to a new headquarters and warehouse at Dodge & Main St.
The company established MyCap Vendors to handle cigarette vending machine distribution, which was later sold in 2021.
W.E. Maron purchased Myers-Cox, consolidating operations with Capital Tobacco and expanding into Kraft and Heinz institutional foods.
Vice President Joseph A. Carew acquired controlling interest, leading the company for decades until his passing in 2008.
Greg Carew, son of Joe, joined the company in 1976. Together, Greg and Joe successfully led Myers-Cox for 28 years, overseeing major innovations including the introduction of computer systems to improve customer service and inventory management. Greg retired in 2004 due to medical reasons.
Myers-Cox relocated to a state-of-the-art 50,000-square-foot facility in Peosta, tripling warehouse capacity and adding a 3,200 sq. ft. freezer.
A commercial chemical division was created in 2013. The division focuses on commercial dishwashing and laundry programs.
Lindsey Carew Dempsey, daughter of Greg and third-generation family member, joined Myers-Cox in 2018, continuing the legacy of family leadership and dedication to the company’s growth and service.
A major warehouse renovation was completed to optimize operations and accommodate further growth.
